British, b. 1958
Julian Opie was born in 1958 in London and graduated in 1982 from Goldsmiths School of Art, where he was taught by Michael Craig-Martin. Celebrated British contemporary artist, Opie is well known for his truly distinctive style of his paintings, sculptures, and public arts.
Once Opie said, “There’s this tendency, because, I suppose, we’re dominated by the camera, that we think of full-on HD resolution reality as being the starting-point, whereas I tend to think of the blank canvas or the blank sheet of paper as the starting-point.” Julian Opie has exhibited nationally and internationally at major institutions and galleries.
