A philosopher and Minimalist sculptor and painter

Lee Ufan was born in Kyongnam, South Korea and moved to Yokohama where he studied philosophy at Nihon University, Japan in 1956. And he became a pioneer of the avant-garde Mono-ha group, beginning in the late 1960s. With his philosophical background, Lee Ufan strives to engage the viewers in contemplating the relationship between space, objects, and themselves. “The work is never complete, because there is no perfection or completeness,” the artist has said.
